Cups to grams, by ingredient
A cup of flour and a cup of honey weigh very different amounts. Choose the ingredient, then convert between cups, spoons, grams, ounces and pieces.

How it is calculated
Volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions are exact US customary definitions: 1 cup = 16 tbsp = 48 tsp = 236.59 mL; 1 lb = 16 oz = 453.59 g. Volume to weight multiplies by the ingredient’s grams per cup.
Densities come from King Arthur Baking’s ingredient weight chart (fetched 2026-10-18), scaled to one cup, and from USDA FoodData Central household portions where the chart has no row. Your own kitchen may differ by a few percent depending on how you fill the cup.

Frequently asked questions
How many grams are in a cup of flour?
About 120 g of all-purpose flour per cup when it is spooned into the cup and leveled, according to King Arthur Baking’s ingredient weight chart. Scooping straight from the bag packs in more flour, so weigh it when accuracy matters.
How many grams are in a cup of sugar?
Granulated sugar is 198 g per cup on King Arthur Baking’s chart; packed brown sugar is 213 g and unsifted powdered sugar 113 g.
Why does a cup of honey weigh more than a cup of water?
Cups measure volume, and honey is denser. A cup of water weighs about 227–237 g, a cup of honey 336 g, so volume-to-weight conversions always need the ingredient.
How many tablespoons are in a cup?
16 tablespoons, or 48 teaspoons. A US cup is 236.6 mL and a tablespoon 14.8 mL; those conversions are exact and do not depend on the ingredient.
